Each month, we sit down with a member of our community to talk about their work, their experience working out of CapitalSquare, and to just generally let the world know how awesome they are!
This month, our spotlight is on Sanni Murtala, co-founder and all round problem solver at Wesabi
Who: Sanni Ifedolapo Murtala
Working from CapitalSquare since: February 2017
Hi, Sanni! Please tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Sanni, obviously(laughs). My close friends call me Ife, though. I have a degree in Business Information Systems from the University of East London.
Upon graduation, I joined Galaxy Backbone; a private-government IT Organization in Abuja as a Data Centre Engineer. I spent two years at Galaxy Backbone. Before then, I had worked as a sales executive at Pensions Alliance Limited (PAL) before traveling to further my studies.
I had always wanted to work in a managerial position so I left Galaxy Backbone for Funmi Quadri & Co, an IT-oriented Law firm, specialized in making applications for Legal Practitioners.I started out as a business development officer, eventually moving up to a managerial position
The difficulty of finding skilled artisans presented an opportunity for Wesabi. How has the response been so far?
The idea behind Wesabi was born from personal experience. It can be unbelievably hard to find skilled artisans, even through referrals. For a lot of people, a platform like Wesabi, where you can find verified workers is a huge relief.
The fact that our clients are insured against theft and damage, and we ensure that all tasks are completed, definitely seals the deal. The response has been really good so far
Many of our clients find it hard to believe that skilled artisans can be found in Nigeria, which is understandable if you consider their past experiences.
A lady in Ikoyi took it upon herself to spread the word about us in her estate, after her washing machine, which had been written off by other 'experts' was fixed by one of our technicians.
How long has wesabi been around and what services do you currently offer?
We started out in September 2015. Our services currently include plumbing, electricals, carpentry, washing machine repairs, refrigerator repairs and cleaning. We're all about ensuring your homes, offices, fittings, and appliances remain in excellent condition!
What are your goals for Wesabi over the next 5 years?
We want to become THE marketplace for highly skilled personnel in Africa
What has been your biggest lesson as an entrepreneur? What would you do differently if you had to start over?
Entrepreneurship has taught me that persistence, patience and hard work are key to building something great. To be honest, I wouldn’t do anything differently. I have learned far more from my mistakes than I have from the times I got it right.
Any interesting new projects you’d like to share with us?
Oh yes, we just launched our mobile App, I think everyone should download it. There'll always be a need to get something fixed or cleaned, so having the app means a verified professional is only a few clicks away.
Enough about work! When you're not solving problems for your clients, What do you do for fun? How do you unwind?
I enjoy playing video games. I also love to read biographies.
What keeps you going when things get challenging?
The thought that somewhere, a door knob just broke (just kidding). My team! They are an awesome bunch of people to work with, to discuss with, to build with. Zainab, John, and Shawn, you guys are incredible!
What do you like about CapitalSquare?
The Ambience is next to none! I enjoy every moment I spend there and I’m able to focus to the fullest.
Thank you for your time, Sanni. It's been awesome chatting with you
The pleasure's all mine.
