Does any of the following sound familiar?
You’re trying to read an important work-related document but your Facebook notifications keep distracting you.
You sit down to begin working on an important project that your boss needs done right away, but your email inbox keeps chiming incessantly with new messages and you can’t help but look every time the chime reaches your eardrums.
You are in the middle of your workday and you’re getting things done, but you’re also getting text messages so you’re stopping every few minutes to read and respond to your family members and friends.
In the previous scenarios, it’s going to be impossible to get into the zone and be more productive. There are too many distractions keeping you from reaching your peak levels of productivity.
To learn how to defeat these distractions once and for all and enter into the zone at will, please use the following suggestions.
1. Make Getting into the Zone a Habit
It may feel impossible to develop a new habit, but if you really think about it, you’ve been accomplishing this task your entire life.
When you were a little kid, your parents told you to brush your teeth every night before you went to bed, or maybe they even took it a step further and had you brush after every meal.
For the longest time, brushing your teeth really wasn’t a habit. Somebody had to remind you to do it if brushing was ever going to get done.
But eventually, as you got older, nobody had to remind you to brush your teeth any longer. You naturally did it on your own because you’ve brushed them so many times that it’s now second nature.
Getting into the zone at will is also possible through the creation of a habit.
Instead of saying to yourself that you’ll never be able to make this happen, you should repeatedly practice getting into the zone day after day until your body and mind naturally do it on their own.
Before long, it will only take seconds to enter the zone and you’ll be much more productive because of your efforts.
2. Keep Track of Your Progress
Ultimately, everyone really wants to get in the zone because they need to be more productive at work or at home.
A simple way to find out if you are regularly getting in the zone is to use online time sheets to track your progress every day.
As an example, let’s say you’re trying to figure out how to raise money for a nonprofit.
You’re investing a lot of time, effort, and energy into this project.
To discover if you’re being effective in the learning process, you can use online software to see exactly how well your learning is progressing.
That’s just one example of many ways to see if you’re entering into the zone, avoiding distractions, and getting a whole lot more done.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Take Breaks
At times, it’s going to be nearly impossible to enter the zone because our mind is just too tired and distracted.
If this is the case, you should not feel like you’ve let yourself down.
On the contrary, everybody needs time away from their pressing tasks in order to relax, unwind, and regroup.
Instead of beating yourself up, do your brain and body a favor and take a moment to unwind.
Go out for a walk, check your Twitter feed, answer a few emails, or do whatever else needs doing while you’re on a break.
And when you’re done, take steps to regroup, gain your focus, and get back into the flow once again.
If you follow these guidelines, you’ll have no problem avoiding distractions so that you can enter into the zone and get plenty of work done.
